1/31/2012: Our Second Day in Colombia!

We arrived safely last night after a very adventurous and busy day of travel. We left our house at 7 am and arrived at the Cali airport at 8:15 pm. We went through Customs without any problems and then were picked up by a young man holding a sign with our name and then lugged the family and luggage to a van and zoomed off to our hotel. Getting to the hotel and checking in was a whirlwind. We were so tired and finding what we needed in our suitcases was tough so late at night. Now we are all feeling pretty well as we have had some time to rest and unpack and get settled in. Our room is nice - kind of like a suite with three bedrooms and three bathrooms - and even a room with a table for us to do an activity or family worship! The hotel staff is nice and accommodating. The meals have been tasty and nutritious. It is definitely not "home" in most aspects but it is good and it is nice to be around the other adoptive families (from Europe). Today we met with our translator (who will accompany us to a few important appointments) and our lawyer, a very nice woman who completed our in-country adoption paperwork when we adopted Anji, Claudia and Andres four years ago. We received very surprising news that we will not meet the girls tomorrow/Wednesday but rather on Thursday afternoon at 2 pm. We are not sure why the change or what happened, but the five of us will now have one more day as a family of five. If nothing else, it will help us acclimate more to all of the changes in temperature, language, food, customs, etc. before we join together with Ladi and Joana on Thursday.

Karl got us all set up with our internet connection so we have access to email as well as phone!!! We now have a US phone number that rings here in our room without any extra cost to call in or call out - we are so thrilled to be able to have contact with the outside world.

Tomorrow we will run a few errands to the notary office and maybe exchange some US Dollars into Colombian pesos for upcoming expenses. The weather has been muggy and warm but thankfully bearable. The ceiling fans in our bedrooms have been very helpful (no air conditioning).

The next few days will be full of twists and turns and we appreciate your prayers.
